Wikipedia Training Workshop

The maiden Wikipedia training workshop spearheaded by Mfah Amadu Barrister marked an important step toward promoting digital knowledge sharing, research visibility, and youth participation in open-access learning in Ghana. Organized by the Centre for Advanced and Applied Research (CAAR SCHOLARS) in collaboration with the University of Ghana Climate Change and Sustainability Students Association, Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies, and Women for Sustainability Africa, the two-day workshop brought together graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Ghana for practical training on Wikipedia editing and knowledge contribution.
Held at the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies, the workshop introduced participants to the importance of Wikipedia as a global information platform and empowered students with skills in article creation, editing, referencing, and responsible digital storytelling. Participants also explored how African scholars and climate-related research can gain greater visibility through open-source platforms.
The training highlighted the growing role of young researchers and students in bridging knowledge gaps and ensuring that African perspectives are adequately represented online. Through interactive sessions and collaborative learning, participants gained hands-on experience while networking with peers passionate about sustainability, research, and digital innovation.
Speaking during the workshop, Mfah Amadu Barrister emphasized the importance of empowering students to contribute credible knowledge to the global community and encouraged participants to use digital platforms to amplify African research and local experiences.
